Salams and Happy New Year!

Aman and I would like to thank everyone for following us last year on our Ramadan adventures in NYC. We never expected such an overwhelming response from such a small project.  Now that the new year is here, we wanted to unveil the idea for this year’s Ramadan.

Our vision is to share the Ramadan experiences of 30 individuals from 30 different countries. Ideally, one story will be from a Muslim residing in South Korea, another from Australia the next from Senegal, followed by Iceland, etc.

As was the case with 30 mosques in NYC, the success of this project is contingent upon participation from our readers.  If you or someone you know currently resides outside of the US and would be interested in sharing your Ramadan experience, please contact Aman or myself at 30mosques@gmail.com. Please include your name, location and a writing sample.

New York City served as a great springboard to this broader project.  The sheer numbers and diversity of Muslims living in New York City are like a microcosm of the global Muslim community. Our purpose is to celebrate the diversity of Islam across the globe.

Ramadan may be seven months away but we need to get the ball rolling on this now.

Neither can we Umar. I thought it was hard enough seeing Bassam every day last year for this project, and that involved me going home to my own apartment each night. Now I’m stuck with this kid on the road for an entire month.

Subhan Allah…this is the illest project ever.

May Allah give you both the most beautiful experiences and ability to retell them vividly to as many people as possible. I wish you both the best success with this!

good luck! sounds like a great idea — hope it turns out awesome, inshaAllah!

but man, where’s the intermediary?! “30 mosques in 30 states.” contrary to popular (nyc) belief, life DOES exist outside of nyc in america!

I can probably get you a postcard from The Fiji Islands. Also a picture of one of the mosques from there. If you don’t have it from there already, that is.
